Study Reveals that Almost Half of Canadian Employees are Considering Switching Jobs in 2022

According to a recent study conducted by Randstad Canada – a leader in the HR services industry – almost half of Canadian employees are considering switching jobs in 2022. Jumping on the shirt tails of the media frenzy being written about regarding “The Great Resignation”, this reports adds insult to injury with Canada’s employers.

If there was a employee versus employer market for HR recruiting like we have with real estate (i.e., buyer’s versus seller’s market), the point of this report indicates Canada’s economy is now in the employee’s market. Randstad’s findings highlight that “employees have taken the driver’s seat … 43% of working Canadians indicate they are likely to look for a new job in the upcoming year”. This could very well turn the attention with HR recruiting initiatives in a different direction. Instead of vetting prospective employees through a stringent hiring process, companies may now be faced with the threat of losing a large percentage of their existing workforce.

“What the survey tells us is that a large number of employees do not want to be tied down to their current place of employment, are looking for new opportunities and want to see if the grass is greener in other organizations. This forces employers to rethink their talent attraction strategies and find creative solutions to retain their talent, now and in the long term”, says Patrick Poulin, Group President, Randstad Canada”.
