MY STORY
Sean Elliott
Sean is an innovative practitioner focusing interests in educational, career, work-integrated learning, and student affairs disciplines. As a passionate and engaging professional, Sean loves to combine his sense of adventure with his joy at work.
Working as a Career Consultant in higher education and as a professor in Career Development, Sean is excited to build on his previous work across the educational sector in Canada. Recently, Sean was assisting postsecondary partners in exploring innovative Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities as the Regional Associate Director of WIL with Central Region for CEWIL Canada. He has extensive history working with Career Services, Work-Integrated Learning, and Employment programs in higher education, high school and community employment settings. Within the college sector, he has worked as an Employer Relations Co-op Consultant, an International Co-op & Career Consultant, a Student Admissions Recruitment Specialist, an Employer and Community Liaison, a Pre-Apprenticeship program facilitator and a Student Co-op Consultant.
His experience as a former Career Counsellor in the school boards in Central Ontario and employment centres helped him to champion programs for underrepresented and marginalized community groups. As a graduate of a university undergraduate degree in human services and theology, a graduate certificate in Career Development and a Master’s of Education in Student Affairs, Sean’s educational background has included experiential learning throughout. Sean is also a Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) and integrates this within his academic research and practice of service.
After building youth counselling, employment and outreach services in central Ontario, Sean went on to build, lead, and implement a residential treatment centre for troubled youth as an Agency Director. Many of the programs and initiatives Sean started, arose out of passion to assist people in identifying the talents, skills, gifts and callings in their lives and to help them to increase in their personal capacity. Originally, Sean carved this focus out while in pastoral leadership. Formally planting various church and ministry organizations, Sean and his wife Bonnie experienced how a vocational calling can be embedded in a multitude of marketplace roles. Much of this exploration has been discovered by students and clients through their participation in experiential learning and career services. It is his passion to help integrate academic rigor with experiential exploration that fuels Sean’s career in serving the community and educational sector in Canada.
